Our journey began in 1960 as part of Rivard Stone, when Lowell Rivard started quarrying limestone from his Wisconsin bluffs overlooking the St. Croix River, just north of Stillwater, Minnesota. In 1998, Lowell’s son Mike launched our monument work, carving that limestone—our exclusive St. Croix Valley Limestone—into custom signs and memorials. Over the decades, those stone signs have marked homes and businesses across the U.S., building a legacy of craft. Then, in 2023, we retooled our facility to shape granite, and in 2024, we reopened a historic quarry near Little Falls, Minnesota, unveiling our exclusive Minnesota Black—a premium black granite that rivals the world’s finest. That same year, industry excitement drove us to expand our facilities, gearing up for larger, high-volume monuments.
